Florida Walls and Ceilings Contractors AssociationOn July 25, W&C’s Editorial Director Mark Fowler will be presenting the seminar “Code Requirements for Water Drainage of Cement Plaster” at this year’s FWCCA’s Southeastern Show at Bonnet Creek Hotel in Orlando.

In 2021, the International Building Code adopted new language regarding the use of water-resistant barriers on cement stucco, when that stucco is placed over wood-based sheathing. The language is complex, confusing and includes the use of the Energy Code map.

Fowler (also executive director) of the Stucco Manufacturers Association has been deeply involved with this issue and its development since the requirement of two layers Grade D was introduced into the 1982 building code. He will review how we got here, what it all means and where all this will likely be headed. Most importantly, the SMA can help contractors make the complex easier to understand so they can adhere to the code requirement and stay competitive. Come learn how to better protect the stucco market and yourself.
